Let's get it over with (Friday WTF)

The other day, Frau and I were discussing Saturday Night Live, and in particular the dry spell they've been having the last few years. To demonstrate my point, watch this Friday WTF video:

It wasn't all that funny, and Lord knows I'm not exactly a fan of Justin Timberlake. But honestly, I think they should do every episode this way. Same amount of humor, an hour and 27 minutes shorter. (By the way, how sad is it that the condensed version had by far the best Nicholas Fehn bit ever.)

Pimp my bookcart

Since I haven't done a really nerdy library-related post in a while...

We at the Daily Marmoset* are big fans of Unshelved, the web comic by librarians, for librarians. Besides a consistently funny web comic that entertains librarians and normal people alike (honest!) and their outstanding book reviews, they also just announced the winners of the third annual

This year's winner was entered by the student employees of Columbia University Library, who designed it to look like a New York hot dog cart.

ABOVE: five bonus points for the
"Confederacy of Dunces" cover on the front.

This probably says more about me than about the bookcarts themselves, but I'm kind of partial to the Optimus Prime model, especially since it really does transform.

ABOVE: The author statement says that "The books
inside are about leadership, replacing his matrix of leadership."
I love that from the bottom of my sad, geeky heart.

If you're curious, the series of comic strips that inspired this contest begins here, and continues thru Sept. 30.

*and by "We", I mean of course "me".

If C is for Cookie, then... (Friday WTF)

I really have nothing to add to this.

Mark your calendars

I don't have much time here, but I quickly wanted to share an article I saw earlier. It's a column in the Post-Dispatch by Kevin Horrigan, entitled The First 83 Days (of the Obama Administration, according to various right-wing websites.)

I, for one, am especially looking forward to April 5-6th.

Sparkles for President in 2016 (Friday WTF)

Well, we're getting a new president. Our great nation is experiencing the biggest surge in optimism and hope that we've had in a very, very long time. I would hate to put a damper on all that, but then again it's Friday and I don't have time to find a better WTF video:

I haven't watched South Park on a regular basis in years, but I always kinda liked Mr. Marsh.

By the way, if you haven't seen the real thing yet, here it is.
